Chapter #33 Summer Show

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, in Monterey Indiana, the IHCC #33 Club had the honor of having their summer picnic at the home of Tim and Vicki Overmyer. Tim is a cousin to our Chapter President Carl Overmyer. Tim is the owner of the Overmyer family farm homestead. It’s always inspiring to see a family whose roots are deep and strong.
Despite COVID-19, a good many members and their families came out to enjoy food and fellowship, and to tour the Overmyer family farm. The Club supplied the meat and drinks, and everyone brought a dish to share. I’m pretty sure no one went away hungry; everything was delicious! After the meal we had a short meeting and presented gifts to Tim and Vicki as a thank you for opening their place up to us.
The Overmyer family are second generation tractor pullers, and has been involved with the NTPA for many years. They had two of their pulling tractors on display, the Sandhill Binder and Bad Company. Tim’s shop is complete with a dyno he uses to test and tune his pullers. The dyno is of his own making and it was interesting to hear about the workings of it. He then took us on a tour of his building which houses his collection of trucks, tractors, and miscellaneous IH pieces. The first tractor Tim told the group about was a 10–20 Titan. That is the same model that the Overmyer family began mechanized farming the very ground that Tim farms today.
Tim confessed several times that he has a problem, but as we all know it’s not HOARDING if your stuff is cool. He has everything from lawn mowers all the way up to semi tractors. He confessed that he doesn’t use a lot of the pieces but he’s always enjoyed collecting. He took us on a tour bus of sorts to the town of Monterey to show us the old grain mill which he bought, where they built new offices, store grain, and store more tractors and parts.
It was a great day to get out and see other members after being cooped up for so long and hopefully we will see everyone again at the next meeting.
